This news is almost as exciting as the arrival of baby #2.... Zachary FINALLY went pee on the potty!! Yesterday was a huge day for the Leys household. He was so excited and proud of himself.
Nana W has been telling him for months that as soon as he went on the potty she would take him to buy a sand box, so as soon as he had gone he quickly reminded her of her promise. So off they went to the store and brought back a turtle sand box. Since it was absolutely beautiful yesterday we first set it up as a mini pool and then filled it up with sand. He thoroughly enjoyed playing in there and at 7am this morning was already asking to go outside to play in it. Hopefully yesterday wasn't a fluke and we have turned the corner with this major challenge. I do realize this will be an ongoing learning process and many accidents will still happen, however I'm feeling optimistic that we have at least started it.
Its been a little while since I've blogged, so here's a few recent pictures and some news. The most exciting piece of news is that my Mom & Dad have returned from England have moved into their new condo here in Naperville. I haven't lived by my parents since I went away to college in 1993. So this is a great adjustment for all of us and I'm looking forward to having them around this summer to help with the new baby and Zach.
Needless to say, I haven't not driven since the accident so its been a blessing having my mom here to chauffeur me around. I haven't had any more 'black outs' but my doctor recommended that I not drive and to be quite honest, I'm too afraid to. So we just been taking advantage of my mom by going on errands with her and spending a lot of time playing outside. Zach has some great friends in our little cull-de-sac who he really enjoys playing with.
Zachary getting ready fill some bigger shoes
Just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS to the Wiegers and Kreider family, as they both delivered healthy babies this week. Steve & Stacy welcomed baby girl Chloe on Monday to their family and Brad & Bradi welcomed baby girl Sydney last night. It was a bit shocking to hear the Kreiders had another girl, as we were all so convinced Bradi was having a boy. Both families are doing well and adjusting to their new lives as families of 4.
Next on the due date list is my college girlfriend, Sandi, who lives out in Montana. She is due at the 28Th of this month and also anticipating the arrival of a baby girl.... it seems like its girls everywhere! Our name is slowly creeping up on the due date list, however despite the arrival of a flock girls, I am still convinced that we are having a boy. We will just have to wait another 5 weeks or so to see... which at this point can't seem to come soon enough after our scare on Tuesday and my major fear of getting behind the wheel again.
Or.... as one friend has said, "God was sitting in the car with you."
Yesterday started as our regular Tuesday, which is usually an uneventful day.
I had an 8am doctor appointment before heading to our final MOPS group at church. My doctor appointment went well, things are moving along, as I'm now 34 weeks. My next appointment is 2 weeks and then I start seeing the doctor on a weekly basis.
I left the doctors office feeling fine and looking forward to going to MOPS. All of a sudden I felt a little warm and put down my window. I remember hearing Zachary say, "Mommy, its too windy, put your window up" and that's the last thing I remember. I woke up to find us sitting on the opposite side of the road, up on the curb, facing on coming traffic. As I was coming to, a woman came running over and was on her cell phone yelling, "Oh my gosh, she's conscious but she's pregnant!"
Apparently I had crossed over 4 lanes of traffic, a median, and in the process hit a sign. Somehow by the Grace of God, I had managed to avoid hitting another car or cars, which is unbelievable as it was morning rush hour. We were also about 30 feet away from going into a pond.
Both emergency response and Mark arrived at the scene in record speed, as they quickly rushed me off in an ambulance to the hospital to check on the status of the baby. Fortunately, the baby was still doing okay and they kept me at the hospital all day to monitor the baby's heart rate. They also ran numerous blood tests to try to determine what, if anything caused me to 'faint or black out.' The results didn't determine a reason why and they sent me home to take it easy.
Needless to say, I am little spooked about the whole thing and won't be driving any time soon. However, as I still have 5 plus weeks left, I will be begging for some rides and taking it one day at a time.
As I continue to replay the events in my mind, I am amazed at the outcome as it could have had such a different result. God definitely had His hands on us yesterday and I am so grateful for that. Also thanks (yet, again) to our other saving grace, my friend Beth, for rushing over to the hospital to pick up Zach and taking care of him all day yesterday.
On Saturday we had our annual neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt, however, it was our first time attending it. Zachary had a great time collecting his 12 eggs and was fascinated opening each one up to see what was inside. He received lots of candy and was eager to eat it all in one sitting, which of course was a bit of a battle trying to stop him. It was a great family outing and one that we will mark on the calendar for next year.
Got his twelve eggs!
